The festive season, with its colorful celebration from Christmas to New Year and even up to the crossover services, invites families and friends to gather. However, amid the dancing and jollof and chicken feasting, it is important to ensure our celebrations are memorable for all the right reasons.

The hustle and bustle of the festive period can sometimes lead to situations where we let out guard down. With the increased movement of people and the obvioust excitement, petty thefts, scams, and even more serious crimes increases. It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on your belongings, especially in crowded places like markets or concert or as we love to say “Detty December”

Festivities often see us out and about at all hours, especially at night. Whether you’re hopping from one party to another or attending a festival in Anambra, basic safety rules apply. Traveling early in the day is ideal, but if you must travel at night, make sure you’re not traveling alone. Keep in touch with family or friends on your whereabouts, plan your routes in advance, and avoid shortcuts through unfamiliar areas.

One highlight of our festive calendar is the crossover service, a tradition of communal worship that bridges the old year into the new. Churches overflow with worshippers, and as we come together, it’s important to also stay safe. Opt for services at familiar locations, preferably ones with security arrangements. Arrive early to avoid rushes and find a safe parking spot. Always keep an eye on exits and personal belongings, and if attending with kids, make sure you have a plan should anyone get separated.

The end of the year is a time to wind down, rejoice, and create lasting memories with loved ones. By keeping security in mind, we open the door to celebrations that are joyful and, most importantly, safe.
